In China a first-to-file system is applied. This means that the individual or company that registers a trademark first will be the legitimate owner of such trademark in China. Even if you have registered your trademark in any other country worldwide, this doesn’t give you protection in China.

If there is no existing Chinese character name for your brand, it is very likely that many different Chinese names will be adopted by local consumers, especially for difficult company or brand names.
