Project Introduction

Kodas is a fast-growing Estonian Food and Beverage brand with the mission to promote a fulfilling lifestyle. The company was set up by Sulev Nõmmann in 2011 in Siidrikoda, Estonia, and is a manufacturer of high-quality ciders and sparkling wines. After many years abroad in different high-level positions, he established an apple orchard in Southern Estonia in 2006.

There is a long tradition of growing apples in Estonia – and the climate of Southern Estonia has allowed the orchards of specially selected varieties to flourish. Only the best Nordic apples are used to get the purest taste of cider. Unlike the industry standard, Kodas does not dilute the apple juice at any point in the production process.

Involvement of Horsten International

Horsten International has been assisting Kodas since 2020. Even in the midst of the Covid-pandemic Horsten’s China team managed to assist Kodas with launching their products on the Chinese market. Although it took quite a bit longer than normal, the Kodas ciders were launched in China mid-2022.

From mid-2020 onwards Horsten performed the following services to Kodas:

• Register the Kodas trademark in China.
• Search for a suitable Chinese name and register this Chinese name as a trademark in China.
• Set up and manage the Kodas official WeChat account.
• Participate to the SIAL 2021 exhibition; two of Horsten’s Chinese colleagues attended the exhibition on behalf of Kodas.
• Assist Kodas with the search for and negotiation with potential customers and distributors.
• Give general strategic advice and assist in communication with the Chinese distributor.
