Project Introduction

Ter Beke (now called What’s Cooking?) is an innovative Belgian fresh food group with a wide range of high-quality fresh food products and associated services, operating in many European countries. They mainly specialise in the production and sales of processed meat products and ready meals, prepared at one of their 12 industrial locations in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Poland and the United Kingdom. Ter Beke has about 2,700 employees worldwide.

What’s Cooking? is market leader in chilled lasagne in many European countries and markets their own brands Come a casa®, Vamos® and Stefano Toselli and also numerous private labels.

Involvement of Horsten International

Horsten assisted Ter Beke in the strategic decision making process concerning its entry into China and performed a detailed feasibility study, including the collection and critical analysis of the available and new market information, formulation of recommendations for operational optimizations, the route-to-market strategy and improved return on investment. 

This was followed by an exploration of the different possible scenarios, including advantages and disadvantages of each scenario, investments and risk analyis and of the possible role and involvement of Horsten International in the project in general.
