China Entrepreneur, Inspirator, Beloved Brother

< Please find the obituary below >

It is with disbelief and great sadness that we share with you the news of the sudden passing of our beloved brother and respected managing director Bart Horsten. Bart passed away on Friday September 12th, 2025 in a tragic car accident in Germany. This unexpected loss leaves a huge emptiness in our hearts, in our family, and in our company. Bart was not only the driving force behind Horsten International – he was also a warm, kind and devoted family man. His dedication, vision, love and caring spirit touched everyone around him and will be missed by so many.

Born in Turnhout in 1969, Bart grew up in a family with 3 brothers where hard work and perseverance were seen as determining forces. After his studies in Leuven, Bart gained valuable experience in various commercial, technical and management roles. In 1998, he joined his fathers’ company and took charge of several investment projects in China.

After the passing of our father Joos Horsten in 2008, Bart became Managing Director of Horsten International with its subsidiaries in Xi’an, China and Hong Kong. He transformed a small family company into a respected, thriving international company. Bart led the company with courage, vision and a strong sense of responsibility. Many will remember Bart as someone who always took the time to listen and support people.

Bart played a crucial role in strengthening and defending the relationship between Belgium and China. He visited China more than 100 times. His understanding of both cultures helped him to build bridges that fostered mutual trust and long-term cooperation. As an entrepreneur and advisor, he tirelessly promoted dialogue, stimulated partnerships, and supported countless Belgian and European companies in navigating the Chinese market. In this role he was also a Board Member of the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and VOKA Global Ambassador China.

Bart was also a warm, generous and deeply caring brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He brought comfort and strength to his family in even the toughest times. As brothers, we shared not only the challenges of running a company – we also shared the ups and downs of life.

His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled with words. But we find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind. His spirit and values will continue to guide us in the future. As Bart would have wanted, we continue our work together with our team in China and with all the support of our entire family, and with even more dedication and perseverance than ever. Bart leaves behind his partner, two beloved children and one grandson.
