Hanjiang and Horsten sign Memorandum of Understanding
9.9.2013

In the presence of Minister-President Kris Peeters of Flanders, Belgium, Hanjiang Investment group and Horsten International NV signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a partnership for joint projects (incl.investment projects) of Belgian companies in China and Chinese companies in Belgium, in particular in the pharmaceutical and related industries.

All good things come in three…

After Xi'an Janssen en Xi'an Thiebaut, two very succesful cooperations between Hanjiang and Horsten, the next generation will now engage in a third partnership, with equal ambitions…!

During the eighties of the past century, Joos Horsten, working for Janssen Pharmaceuticals Belgium at the time and father of Bart Horsten, was responsible for the realisation of the succesful joint venture of Janssen in China. The very first partner of Janssen in China was Hanjiang Pharmaceuticals, a company from the city of Hanzhong in Shaanxi Province, a sister city of Turnhout, the place where Dr.Paul Janssen laid the foundation of Janssen Pharmaceutical. The Chinese company was also one of the original Chinese shareholders of Xi'an Janssen, and still is today.

At the end of the nineties the second cooperation started between the companies, when Horsten (together with TS Flanders from Belgium) joined hands with Hanjiang to set up Xi'an Thiebaut, manufacturer of high quality aluminium tubes and key supplier to Xi'an Janssen. Xi'an Thiebaut is also doing very well and both companies are still a shareholder today.

As a result of these succesful projects both companies have now decided to engage in a new partnership with the intention to use the experience and resources from the above cooperations for the initiation of new projects between Belgian and Chinese companies. Bart Horsten, managing director of Horsten International and Mr.Wang Zhengjun, general manager of Hanjiang Investment signed a memorandum of understanding on 9 september in which the general principles of the cooperation have been agreed. Some promising projects are already under investigation, it is planned to realise the first projects in the course of 2014.
